Case 1248 Operating with Fictitious Plates

Officer was staking out a vehicle that he knew had false plates on it. Client is given permission to use the vehicle, not knowing the owner had put false plates on it, or that an officer was watching the vehicle. Instead of stopping the client from driving off in the vehicle, the officer followed the vehicle half a block and stopped the vehicle. In Ohio, it is illegal to drive a vehicle with false plates, whether you know they are false or not. Client was cited with Operating with Fictitious Plates.

Negotiations with the prosecutor resulted in a conviction for No License Plate Light (a nonmoving equipment violation). No fine was imposed. No points assessed.
