SMPD SUV - Hit Skip Case

Police SUV from the St. Marys Police Department

Police responded to a hit skip case in town. A crash noise was reported around 4:30 A.M. The vehicle struck was severely damaged. Police found a wrecked vehicle parked in a yard a couple of blocks away. The registration came back to the client. Police opened up client’s vehicle, and it had a strong odor of alcohol. The police contacted the client and asked him to come to the scene, which client did (walking) at 7:20 A.M. Client had a very strong odor of alcohol. Client stated that he was the driver. Client was asked if he had been drinking before and/or after the accident and client said he was not answering any questions without his lawyer present. Client was a prior client with an OVI, Failure to Control and Under Age Consumption reduced to Physical Control in 2011. Client is still under 21. Client charged with Operating without Reasonable Control, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and a seatbelt violation.


Negotiations with the prosecutor resulted in a conviction for Operating without Reasonable Control and a seatbelt violation with a total fine of $180 and 2 points assessed on the license. Leaving the Scene of an Accident was dismissed.
